Another very enjoyable instalment in the Parasol Protectorate series. I felt while reading it that it was moving slower than the previous books in the series, which does count as a fault. On the other hand she has managed to shed a different light on the events of the previous books and on various characters by the addition of new information (one of my favourite aspects of a series and too rarely utilized). The "surprise" ending wasn't much of a surprise for me, as I had accidentally seen a blurb about Timeless. I'm now rather annoyed, as it is an excellent ending. That's the problem, if there is one, with Carriger's plots -- you can't talk about them without spoiling them and the delight really is in the discovery. Quite a conundrum for a bookseller like me. Just go and read the books. Please?
